About Communication

From this podcast project, I want to personally research more about Japan's food culture and think of innovative ways to present this information without boring the viewers. This project will therefore be an exercise of my creative side, because I want my group to create a production that is interesting and informative, yet fresh. I also hope to be able to use a wide variety of Japanese sentence structures that we've learned so that I can improve my usage of Japanese, and appropriately apply them to different scenarios.

Regarding communication, I think that a fine balance between collaboration and independence is essential to making group projects work. Therefore, respectful and polite communication between the members of a group is absolutely necessary. Being open to the ideas of others ensures that members will not feel alienated and afraid to speak, thereby encouraging them to contribute and make suggestions.

Additionally, increased communication, through acts such as: exchanging contact information, creating shared documents online, frequently e-mailing, and meeting up to discuss ideas, allows for all group members to have an equal say in the direction of their project. Additionally, as long as the people of a group all are on the same page when it comes to goals, decisions, and understanding of what they are doing, then it's possible for the individual members to work independently and produce their own work, thereby increasing the efficiency of the group as a whole. When group members are all on the same page, they are then able to individually branch off and make their own unique contributions to the project. This allows the individuals to critically think, lessening dependence upon other group members.

This method of communication ensures that together with the group members, an individual is speaking, sharing ideas, contributing, and listening. Forging a feeling of camaraderie motivates the individual members to make their own contributions when it is necessary to split work, and thus effectively be productive.

  1. I agree with your opinions. Sometimes working in a group can be hard, and having all the members able to communicate effectively together helps a lot. I also agree that it is important to have everyone contribute, and for everyone to feel comfortable contributing their opinions. Then it truly is a group project, and everyone can equally take pride in it.

  2. communication between group members is so important, making the whole process of working together so much more efficient. It is hard finding that "balance between collaboration and independence" and I think once that balance is found, group projects ban be enjoyable.

  3. Hello, Hannah-san,

I am very much looking forward to watching your group's podcast project!

Communication is important not only among your group members, but also between you and your audience. Most importantly, what you want to say with the project should be fully gasped by the audience.

    Good luck! and Enjoy!!
